U.S. Marine Col. Jay E. Johnson shakes hands with Republic of Korea Marine Maj. Gen. Woo Hyun Hwang during his arrival on the flight line of Daegu Air Base in Daegu, Republic of Korea, March 14. Daegu Air Base is the site of 3rd Marine Division’s combined operations center during the Command Post Exercise of Marine Expeditionary Force Exercise 2014. MEFEX 2014 is designed to enhance the interoperability between the U.S. Marine air-ground task force and the ROK Marine task force while honing amphibious capabilities of each nation’s Navy and Marine Corps. Hwang is the commanding general of 1st ROK Marine Division. Johnson is the assistant division commander of 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force.
