Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island

Rct. Keyonna Jackson, with Platoon 4018, Oscar Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, turns in her personal belongings March 12, 2014, shortly after arriving for boot camp on Parris Island, S.C. Recruits are issued everything they will need during training, from personal hygiene products to field equipment. Unnecessary items, such as their civilian clothing, are stored until the week of graduation. Jackson, an 18-year-old native of Jacksonville, Fla., is scheduled to graduate June 6, 2014. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Lance Cpl. Vaniah Temple)
