Col. Mark Spindler, commander, 18th Military Police Brigade, Multi-National Division-Baghdad, a native of St. Louis, examines the surrounding area near a Baghdad checkpoint Oct. 14, 2008. Spindler often inspects IP checkpoints to verify IP procedures. IP have recently begun the transfer of responsibility from the Iraqi army and Iraqi national police at numerous checkpoints around Baghdad Muhallas. The transfer of these checkpoints will leave IP independently in charge of the security situation in the respective Muhallas.
