Capt. Greg Cummings, commander of India Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, speaks to his recruits about the Marine Corps’ core values March 25, 2014, on Parris Island, S.C. Cummings, 28, from West Chester, Pa., stressed the important role honor, courage and commitment play in the transformation of a recruit into a Marine. If recruits cannot prove they are imbued with these values, they will not earn the title Marine. India Company is scheduled to graduate June 13, 2014. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
