Chloe Gilland (center), daughter of Col. Steve Gilland, the outgoing commander of the 1st “Ironhorse” Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, receives a single red rose at the Ironhorse change of command and assumption of responsibility ceremony April 7 at Fort Hood, Texas. Chloe’s sister, Grace (center, right) also received a single red rose, and their mother, Betsy Gilland, received a bouquet of red roses. Part of a long-standing cavalry tradition, the presentation of red roses symbolizes a full and rewarding relationship and congratulations for a job well done. (U.S. Army photo by Spc.
