Marines with Bulk Fuel Company, 7th Engineer Support Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group, established a booster site during the construction of an Amphibious Assault Fuel System aboard Camp Pendleton, Calif., April 1-11, 2014. Sites like this act as pump stations to ensure fuel arrives at the distribution site. The AAFS uses a five-mile collapsible hose system to transport the fuel from a ship at sea to the units on shore. The system currently being constructed uses three and a half miles of hosing to transport the fuel throughout the entire system. The network allows for the receiving, storage, and distribution of 1.3-million gallons of fuel. It consists of a vast layout of 33 fuel bladders, each holding 20,000 to 50,000 gallons of fuel, placed inside six-foot tall earth berms as a safety measure to contain any spillage should a bladder rupture.
