    Malaysian airliner search

A saltwater-activated Mark 58 marine location marker sits next to the freefall chute aboard a U.S. Navy P-8A Poseidon aircraft assigned to Patrol Squadron (VP) 16 flying over the Indian Ocean April 15, 2014, in support of the international search effort to locate Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. The markers were used as visual aids in directing ships to the vicinity of where items of debris may be located in the water. U.S. Navy ships and aircraft were dispatched to assist a multinational search for Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, which disappeared March 8, 2014, over the Gulf of Thailand with 239 people aboard.
