Adm. Jonathan Greenert, Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces Command (left) is assisted by Pete Sococo, Machinist's Mate 3rd Class Brandon Pugh, Lt. j.g. Edwin Spencer and Rear Adm. Michael Yurina in cutting the cake for the 109th annual Submarine Birthday Ball. Following the tradition, the oldest qualified submariner cuts the cake joined by the newest qualified submariners. Sococo qualified in submarines in 1940 and served for 31 years during which he completed 16 submarine war patrols. Spencer and Pugh, both from the Los Angeles-class attack submarine USS Albany (SSN 753), are the newest qualified submariners.
