Supplies are transferred to the hangar deck on aircraft elevator four as Supply Department personnel perform a foreign object damage walk-down on the flight deck after the completion of a vertical replenishment on the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan. The VERTREP took place between Ronald Reagan and the Military Sealift Command dry cargo/ammunition ship USNS Richard E. Byrd and also included the fast combat support ship USNS Bridge, the Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate USS Thach and other ships assigned to the Ronald Reagan Carrier Strike Group. The Ronald Reagan Carrier Strike Group is on a routine deployment in the 7th Fleet area of responsibility. Operating in the Western Pacific and Indian Ocean, the U.S. 7th Fleet is the largest of the forward-deployed U.S. fleets covering 52 million square miles, with approximately 50 ships, 120 aircraft and 20,000 Sailors and Marines assigned at any given time.
