Sgt. Brian Mendez, sergeant-of-the-guard with Regimental Combat Team 5, maneuvers Cpl. Luis Vasquez, from Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, into a fireman's carry at the Camp Ripper, Iraq, martial arts training tent, Nov. 17. Mendez, a one-time student of the renowned Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy, uses his skills to benefit the Marines of RCT-5 and any other unit on Al Asad Air Base as a martial arts instructor.
