Rear Adm. Fred Midgette, commander of the Ninth Coast Guard District, presents Sturgeon Bay Mayor Thad Birmingham and its citizens with a gift following the proclamation formally recognizing that town as a "Coast Guard City," May 10, 2014. Sturgeon Bay, which has a 140-year relationship with the Coast Guard and its predecessor services, is now one of 16 cities designated by Congress with that distinction for support shown in those communities to the men and women of the Coast Guard.
