An aerial view of Great Gull Island and its neighbor, Little Gull Island. The islands sit between Fishers Island and Plum Island in the Long Island Sound. Great Gull Island was home to Fort Michie during World War I and World War II, and is now the protecting nesting site of two species of tern, the common and roseate. Roseates have been on the federal endangered species list since 1987. (U.S. Army Photo by Staff Sgt. Jordan Werme, 130th Public Affairs Detachment)
