Lt. Col. Christopher M. Murray, center right, answers questions from members of the media alongside Lt. Col. William L. Depue Jr., center left, after a change of command ceremony May 22 at Marine Corps Air Station Futenma. During the change of command ceremony Murray received the Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron colors from Depue, symbolizing the transfer of command. “As you know, we've had an alliance with the country of Japan for its defense for a number of years,” said Murray. “We owe it to the people of Japan to provide the most capable, technically-advanced platforms that we can, and that's the Osprey.” Not only does the Osprey significantly strengthen the U.S. ability to provide for the defense of Japan, but it also enhances the capabilities to execute humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations and fulfill other alliance roles. The MV-22B Osprey is a highly-capable, tiltrotor aircraft which combines the vertical capability of a helicopter with the speed and range of a fixed-wing aircraft. VMM-265 is with Marine Aircraft Group 36, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, III Marine Expeditionary Force.
