Capt. Brian Kitching (right), the former commander of Company B, 1st Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment “Desert Rogues”, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, speaks to those in attendance about Sgt. Thomas Evans, a native of Trenton, N.J., and Spc. Dustin Smothers, a native of Jasper, Ala., both infantryman of the Bayonet Company, after they were both awarded the Bronze Star Medal with ‘V’ device for Valor here at the Rogues motor pool, May 16. Both Soldiers were awarded the BSM with ‘V’ device for their individual actions on separate occasions in combat during their last deployment to Afghanistan with the Rogues, which took place from March to December of 2012. Kitching was commander of the Bayonets during this period, and was also in the same battle in which Evans fought with distinction. (U.S. Army photo by Sgt.
