PARRIS ISLAND, SOUTH CAROLINA, UNITED STATES

Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island

Rct. Aleaha Gregor, Platoon 4021, Papa Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, adjusts her uniform prior to taking a platoon photo June 10, 2014, on Parris Island, S.C. All platoons take a keepsake photo prior to the end of training. However, the photos are more than just memorabilia. They represent the solid bonds built between recruits as well as the physical, mental and moral progression they have made through boot camp. Gregor, 22, from Seattle, is scheduled to graduate June 20, 2014. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Cpl. Caitlin Brink)
