Spc. Nicholas Rapcan, left, and Sgt. 1st Class David Rapcan, right, show off their 1st Cavalry pride at Hohenfels Army base, May 31 2014. Sgt. 1st Class Rapcan deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom both in 2004 and 2009. The elder Rapcan wore the same 1st Cavalry Division combat patch for both deployments. That patch he then gave to his son, Nick, who wore the patch to Iraq in 2010 and then to Afghanistan in 2012. The Rapcans joke about how that patch, now almost 10 years old, will become a family heirloom someday.
