Marines with Bravo Company, 8th Engineer Support Battalion, 2nd Marine Logistics Group gathered for a company mess night aboard Camp Lejeune, N.C., June 19, 2014. The mess night gave Marines an opportunity to gather as a unit outside of work to experience Marine Corps tradition and build camaraderie. The Marine Corps mess night originates in 1953, when the 3rd Marine Regiment combat swim team had dinner with their British Royal Marine rivals during an annual competition. The event embodies the spirit of the Marine Corps’ brotherhood with entertainment provided by the Marines, and food and toasts honoring the sacrifices of the men and women who have served in the Marine Corps, past and present.
