Lt. Col. Michael Shrout, commander of Task Force 2nd Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Multi-National Division – Baghdad, participates in a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Iraqi army Col. Karim, 1st Brigade, 45th IA Division; Kadim Attia, chairman of the Marquez Mada'in Nahia Council; and Ganam Abid, headmaster for the Mada'in and Jaber Bin boy's secondary schools, in Salman Pak, southeast of Baghdad, Jan. 8. The ceremony marked the beginning of a refurbishment project for both schools and the start of Operation Iron Gator. The operation is intended to improve the quality of life and infrastructure in the Salman Pak area. Shrout is a native of Renton, Wash.
