    Puerto Rico Field Artilery Departs Guantanamo

    Army Brig. Gen. Rafael O'Ferrall, Joint Task Force Guantanamo deputy commander, bids farewell to Army Staff Sgt. Edwin Ramirez, a trooper from the Puerto Rico Army National Guard's Headquarters and Headquarters Support Battery, 2nd Battalion, 162nd Field Artillery, as he prepares to depart U.S. Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Jan. 11. The 2-162 FA are on their way home after completing a year-long deployment in support of JTF Guantanamo, where they provided external security. JTF Guantanamo conducts safe, humane, legal and transparent care and custody of detained enemy combatants, including those convicted by military commission and those ordered released. The JTF conducts intelligence collection, analysis and dissemination for the protection of detainees and personnel working in JTF Guantanamo facilities and in support of the Global War on Terror. JTF Guantanamo provides support to the Office of Military Commissions, to law enforcement and to war crimes investigations. The JTF conducts planning for and, on order, responds to Caribbean mass migration operations.
