While attending a conference on Okinawa to discuss the presence of the U.S. military from a local perspective, Tomonaga visited the headquarters building to meet the command staff of III MEF, build understanding of the Marine Air Ground Task Force and how the Marine Corps works with Navy for amphibious deployments and expeditionary operations.
