Lt. Timothy Sheptock, security officer of the future amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6), monitors the horizon for surface contacts as the ship departs Huntington Ingalls shipyard in Pascagoula, Miss., for its maiden voyage. America is the first ship of its class, replacing the Tarawa-class of amphibious assault ships. The ship is scheduled to be commissioned Oct. 11, 2014 in San Francisco.
