Marines from Company I, 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment (Reinforced), help unload cargo from a truck at Combat Outpost Barrow, Jan. 3, in Farah province, Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. Marines of Co. I. are manning the COPs along Route 515 in support of Operation Gateway III. The operation was a strategically planned effort to clear the route of deadly improvised explosive devices laid by insurgents and provide an alliance presence. 3/8 is the ground combat element of Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force ? Afghanistan.
