Rear Adm. Rich Brown (right), commander, Naval Service Training Command (NSTC) talks to Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) Naval Science Instructors (NSI) during a Mariner Skills Simulator (MSS) summit hosted by NSTC on Naval Station Great Lakes, August 6. MSS is computer software that enables NROTC midshipman an opportunity to study and learn basic navigation and virtually navigate U.S. Navy ships in and out of harbors and ports in real time. NSTC, which oversees the NROTC program, is working to get the MSS software installed at more than 150 colleges and universities either host NROTC units or have cross-town enrollment agreements with a host university.
