Pfc. Josh Venske of Fremont, Ind. looks to his squad leader, Sgt. Michael Shults of Spokane, Wash., for advice while conducting preventive maintenance checks and service on his mine resistant ambush protected vehicle before a convoy from Joint Base Balad, Iraq on Jan. 15. Both Soldiers are assigned to the Mortar Platoon, E. Company, 1st Battalion, 161st Infantry of the Washington Army National Guard. PMCS is one component of the unit's safety program. Since taking over the convoy escort mission in Nov. 2008, 1-161 Inf. logged over 500,000 accident free miles.
