People walk through the halls of the African Union compound in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, after attending the opening session of the 14th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the AU Jan. 30, 2009. The opening session, chaired by Bernard Mbembe, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Republic of Tanzania, was attended by Jean Ping, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, and Abdoulie Janneh, Under Secretary General and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa. Opening remarks by the men detailed the AUC's activities during the past six months and strategic plans for the future.
