Sgt. Mark Moser, a drill instructor with Platoon 3073, India Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, encourages his recruits to move faster July 21, 2014, on Parris Island, S.C. Recruits must complete each task in unison. If one recruit fails to do so, everyone will be required to repeat the task. This helps instill instant and willing obedience to orders, respect for authority and teamwork. Moser, 25, is from Manley, Neb. India Company is scheduled to graduate Oct. 10, 2014. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
