Iranian Foreign Minister Manoucher Mottaki sits in the Plenary Hall of the United Nations building in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, during the 12th African Union Summit Feb. 2. Mottaki attended the summit the same day Iran launched a satellite into orbit. The country alleges the satellite, named "Omid," persian for hope, is intended for communications use and earthquake monitoring.
