Soldiers of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 38th Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, receive close supervision by their squad leader before firing a mortar round during plotting board verification, Aug. 12, 2014. “The squad leader is in charge of making sure all of the data is correct on the gun, the safety protocols are done every time that we fire, rounds are prepped correctly and the correct charge is used,” said Staff Sgt. Jared Pusateri, mortar squad leader, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 38th Infantry Regiment, 1st SBCT, 4th Infantry Division.
