Marines perform Special Patrol Insertion/Extraction training on a CH-53E Super Stallion as part of the Helicopter Rope Suspension Techniques course Aug. 20 at the Central Training Area. The SPIE rig involves several Marines attaching to one rope and being pulled off the ground. The SPIE rig is most beneficial to insert or extract Marines when they are in a precarious position or the aircraft cannot land. The Marines are with various units across III Marine Expeditionary Force. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl. Isaac Ibarra/Released)
