Several amphibious assault vehicles make their way to shore during an amphibious assault exercise Feb. 13 in Samaesan, Thailand, as part of exercise Cobra Gold 2009. The landing involved Royal Thai marines from 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, as well as U.S. Marines and Sailors from the USS Essex Amphibious Strike Group. Cobra Gold is a joint, coalition event designed to promote military cooperation in the Pacific region.
