Capt. Frank Futcher, stationed aboard Navy Business Operations Office in Washington., explains a display of 3D printed objects during a Navy Warfare Development Command (NWDC) sponsored innovation workshop at Old Dominion Universities Engineering and Computational Sciences Building in Norfolk, Va. Sept. 12. 3D printing is a technique where computer aided design software is used to generate a part and print it for shipboard use. The workshop was held to bring innovative Sailors, government employees and ODU staff and students together for Sailors to display, explain and offer new ideas they hope will improve the fleet. NWDC and ODU partnered in the event to display the ongoing relationship and initiatives they share for innovation and the improvement of modeling, simulation and visualization engineering.
