Students from Columbia Heights Educational Campus, Bell Multicultural High School Navy Junior ROTC gathered along the course of the 2014 Air Force Half Marathon/Navy 5-Miler in Washington, D.C., Sept. 14. The students were providing support and encouragement to Team Fisher House. The Fisher House Foundation provides comfort homes where military and veterans’ families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving medical treatment. These homes are located at major military and VA medical centers nationwide, close to the medical center or hospital they serve. Fisher House Foundation ensures that there is never a lodging fee. Since inception, the program has saved military and veterans’ families an estimated $235 million in out-of-pocket costs for lodging and transportation.
