Petty Officer 1st Class Ciara Green is promoted to chief petty officer Sept. 16 during a pinning ceremony at the Camp Foster Theater here. Families, fellow service members and civilians gathered to watch 31 sailors get promoted during the ceremony. The rank of chief petty officer was established on April 1, 1893. The letters “USN” on the anchor stand for unity, service and navigation. The promotion to chief petty officer occurs every year during the month of September. Green is a hospital corpsman assigned to Marine Wing Support Squadron 171, Marine Aircraft Group 36, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, III Marine Expeditionary Force. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl.
