U.S. Marines clear a stairwell Sept. 20 during exercise Valiant Shield 2014 on Tinian, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. Valiant Shield is a biennial, U.S.-only, exercise with focus on integration of joint training among U.S. forces. This is the fifth exercise in the Valiant Shield series.
