The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Mustin (DDG 89) maneuvers alongside the Lewis and Clark-class dry cargo ship USNS Pecos (T-AKE-197) to conduct a replenishment-at-sea (RAS) during Valiant Shield 2014. U.S. Navy surface combatants and Military Sealift Command fleet logistics ships, part of Commander, Task Force 73, conducted a simulated submarine threat exercise during a regularly scheduled RAS as part of Valiant Shield. Valiant Shield is a U.S.-only exercise integrating 18,000 U.S. Navy, Air Force, Army, and Marine Corps personnel, more than 200 aircraft and 19 surface ships, offering real-world joint operational experience to develop capabilities that provide a full range of options to defend U.S. interests and those of its allies and partners.
