Marines scan the horizon while inside a Humvee as the sun begins to rise in the Afghanistan sky during a cordon and search mission in support of Operation Pathfinder Feb. 9, in Farah province, Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. Company I, 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment (Reinforced), conducted numerous security patrols during the operation to ensure the security of the villages near Route 515. 3/8 is the ground combat element of Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force - Afghanistan. SPMAGTF-A's mission is to conduct counterinsurgency operations, with a focus on training and mentoring the Afghan national police.
