Maj. Lawrence Ngeryen, a staff dental officer at Travis Air Force Base, from Rocklin, Calif., explains to a young patient the reason for wearing a protective visor while performing dental surgery at the Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation clinic. Ngeryen is in the village participating in Operation Arctic Care, a joint military medical readiness exercise that brings no-cost health care to underserved Alaskan residents, including dental, optometry and veterinary support. This year's Navy-led mission has teams in 11 villages in Alaska's Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta region.
