The CH-53E Super Stallion detachment of Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron-163 (Rein.) with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, flew by the USS Boxer in a side-by-side formation as their "farewell fly-by" on their way to assist in operations in Al Asad, Iraq. The detachment departed Boxer for Iraq, March 3, to support Operation Iraqi Freedom ashore. Boxer Expeditionary Strike Group and the 13th MEU are deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom as well as Maritime Security Operations. MSO help develop security in the maritime environment. From security arises stability that results in global economic prosperity. MSO help develop security in the maritime environment and complement the counterterrorism and security efforts of regional nations. These operations seek to disrupt violent extremists' use of the maritime environment to transport personnel and weapons or serve as a venue for attack.
