    Pool dedication

Daniel Murphy hugs Rear Adm. Garry Bonelli, deputy commander, Naval Special Warfare Command, at the Lt. Michael P. Murphy Combat Training Pool dedication ceremony July 9. Murphy, Lt. Murphy's father, was the special guest of honor along with the deceased officer's mother, Maureen, and brother, John (both left of Daniel). The pool, which will be used by officer candidates and students at Officer Training Command Newport (OTCN) for swim qualifications, was dedicated and named for Murphy, a Navy SEAL and Medal of Honor recipient, killed in action in Afghanistan on June 28, 2005. Murphy was awarded the nation's highest military honor for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty, trying to call for help from an exposed location for his wounded four-man team against superior odds of between 30 to 40 enemy fighters.
