Spc. Matthew Varns, assigned to the 4th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, aids one of his fellow troops during the medical application part of the battalion's combat life saver competition on Contingency Operating Base Adder, Iraq, Feb. 26. Varns, from Birmingham, Ala., won the contest and received a battalion belt buckle, a 1st Cavalry Division Jersey and his third Army Achievement Medal.
