Staff Sgt. Amber Jones, a drill sergeant leader at the U.S. Army Drill Sergeant School at Fort Jackson, S.C., waits patiently as a drill sergeant candidate now in his second week of training pitches a module on the proper way to perform “parade rest.” Jones, an AGR Soldier with the Army Reserve, has been on the trail for a total of four years, with two of those coming in her current position as drill sergeant leader. Soldiers serving at the Drill Sergeant School are hand-picked from a select group of noncommissioned officers and are charged with preparing the Army’s elite for becoming a drill sergeant.
