Kazakhstani Peacekeeping Battalion soldiers conduct mounted and dismounted patrol operations while setting up a vehicle checkpoint to provide border control security during the Steppe Eagle 2014 exercise, Oct. 2, at the Joint Multinational Readiness Training Center here. The British Army acted as mentors and observers as the KAZBAT troops searched vehicles for illegal substances and weapons intended for transportation across a simulated border. This is the first year Steppe Eagle exercise is being conducted outside of Kazakhstan, allowing the KAZBAT to validate their deployment capacity to perform peacekeeping operations outside of their country.
