Woody Derby, center, a Pearl Harbor attack survivor, and his wife, Christine, are given a tour of the guided missile cruiser USS Port Royal (CG 73) by Master Chief Petty Officer Herbert Ellis, command master chief of Naval Surface Group Middle Pacific, in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, Dec. 8, 2009. Derby is attending the 68th Annual Pearl Harbor Day ceremony. The morning of Dec. 7, 1941, Japanese bombers staged a surprise attack on U.S. military forces in Hawaii. The day after the attack, before a joint session of Congress, President Franklin D. Roosevelt asked for a declaration of war against Japan and the U.S. officially entered World War II.
