Sailors and tiger cruise participants aboard amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6) watch as an MV-22 Osprey starts its rotors during flight operations. Tiger cruises allow crew members an opportunity to bring family and friends on board for a short underway period. The program is designed to strengthen family ties and increase awareness and appreciation for the Navy and its mission through personal interaction and experience. America is the first ship of its class and the fourth to bear the name. It replaces the Tarawa-class of amphibious assault ship and is optimized for aviation and capable of supporting current and future aircraft, such as the MV-22 Osprey and F-35B Joint Strike Fighter.
