U.S. Cavalry Soldiers visit a memorial to 30,000 Jews massacred at the Kaunas Fortress during a cultural exchange trip Oct. 11. In the first of several cultural exchange outings, U.S. Cavalry Soldiers visited the Kaunas Fortress and museum Oct. 11 to learn about the horrific history of the site that has served as Russian military fortifications in WWI, Nazi extermination camp in WWII, and Russian prison and deportation center after WWII. U.S. Cavalry Soldiers are in Lithuania as part of the U.S. Army Europe-led Atlantic Resolve, a multinational combined arms exercise involving the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, and host nations, taking place across Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland.
