Boatswain's Mate 3rd Class Michael Pacifico, from Murrieta, Calif., assigned to Assault Craft Unit (ACU) 5, embarked aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), directs a Marine Humvee during an amphibious landing training exercise in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and the embarked 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) maintains its readiness to promote long-term regional security by conducting regularly scheduled, recurring exercises.
