Supply convoys such as these are common occurrences throughout Iraq's Al Anbar Province. Such missions are conducted by servicemembers of the 1st Marine Logistics Group, which is relieving the 2nd MLG as they complete a 12-month tour in Iraq. The 4,000 joint-service members of the 1st MLG are part of the 25,000 Marines, sailors, soldiers and airmen of the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force's forward deployed element. The 1st MLG's mission is to provide sustained logistical support to I MEF and Iraqi Security Forces operating in the Al Anbar Province. First MLG will also support the development of Iraqi Security Forces' logistical capabilities in order to enable independent ISF-led counterinsurgency operations.
