David Roman, A Company, 46th Engineer Combat Battalion (Heavy), 225th Engineer Brigade, of Holland Patent, N.Y., describes the battle scene that fateful night six years ago before the run honoring Sgt. 1st Class Paul R. Smith, April 5. The tower (left) littered with bullet holes, displays a haunting reminder of the battle that took the platoon sergeant's life. Roman, who served with Smith in the 11th Engineer Battalion, organized the event for his fallen friend.
