A Combat Pistol Program range coach sports a distinct Pith helmet while observing shot groupings during training at the Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point Combat Pistol Program range here, Nov. 3, 2014.
The Pith helmet is instantly recognizable to most Marines and is worn exclusively by Marines serving as marksmanship coaches.
The Marine Corps' Marksmanship Program Management Section adopted the new CPP in 2013 to reflect real-world conditions to help Marines train to use the M-9 9mm pistol at close quarters.
