A landing craft air cushion (LCAC) from Assault Craft Unit Five (ACU 5), embarked with equipment from the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), departs the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) to support an ammunition transfer with the amphibious transport dock ship USS San Diego (LPD 22), Nov. 4. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and the embarked 11th MEU provide a versatile, sea-based, expeditionary force that can be tailored to a variety of missions in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.
